Nick Albertson (b. 1983, Boston, Massachusetts) is a photographic artist based in Chicago. He is represented by ENGAGE Projects. He received his MFA in Photography at Columbia College Chicago in 2013 and his BA in Photography from Bard College in 2006. His work has been exhibited in Chicago, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and New York as well as internationally at the Pingyao International Photo Festival.
"With my recent exploration into the cyanotype process I am continuing my investigation into mark-making using mass produced everyday objects, in this case plastic straws. The paper is coated with photo-sensitive cyanotype chemistry, and then the straws are placed on top of the paper, all in complete darkness. This is then exposed to sunlight and processed with water. The individual shapes are dictated by the straws, but the overall compositions have an element of chance due to creating them without light." |
