This painting features Black Bart (bootleg Bart). I have used Black Bart in paintings for years. Black Bart represents fad culture and how it can get wrapped up with activism and often falls out of fashion when the next trend comes along. In the painting, is a found blacklight poster from the 70’s but reprinted in recent years. The cop car is driving toward Bart and his friend who is leading him to danger. The cop car is also smoke filled.
