Aspect/Ratio Projects is pleased to present Mary’s Room, a new video work from gallery artist Martin Murphy.
Mary’s Room is the first solo Chicago show for Martin Murphy.
With Mary’s Room, Martin Murphy continues his exploration of our relationship to the virtual world. The video depicts a young woman’s subconscious, where classical tropes like fire, ocean and sky mix with contemporary themes of club culture, special effects and pop music.
Martin Murphy was born in Wisconsin and lives in Brooklyn, NY. He received a B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute (2005) and a M.F.A. from Hunter College (2009). His work has been exhibited internationally in venues such as the De La Cruz Collection (Miami, FL), Gallery Steinek (Vienna, Austria), Art In General (New York, NY), Gallery Litvak, (Tel Aviv, Israel), Garage Projects (54th Venice Biennale), and the HBC Center (Berlin, Germany). His work has been featured in ArtPulse, L’uomo Vogue, Rhizome, and Flash Art. In 2010, Martin received the Tony Smith Award from Hunter College.
