Morality Play

This refers to Christian fear of eternal damnation, but more generally, ideas of punishment and fear and how they reinforce moral beliefs. The spirograph is split into twelve sections which could refer to the zodiac determining our fate or the twelve apostles fitting in with Christian iconography. The number 144 is also stamped on the gear which denotes how many teeth are on the outer ring, but the book of revelation talks about the 144,000 souls that will be saved at the Rapture. The cake-topper angel with its faux-golden wings sounds its trumpet.
