Aspect/Ratio Projects is pleased to present Intentional Attention, a show with Cameron Gainer and Xie Hongdong
Aspect/Ratio Projects is pleased to present Intentional Attention, a two person show from artists Cameron Gainer and Xie Hongdong. This exhibition reveals the natural beauty of our world not always readily apparent to the naked eye. By definition, intentional attention involves cultivating a constant readiness to capture external elements, in this case through a photographer’s lens, exposing the raw, untouched beauty of our environment. Both conceptual artists, Gainer and Xie use photography as a means for exploring larger ideas and metaphors. Gainer’s work focuses not on the light that is reflected off the subject, but instead makes light itself the subject as an analogy to chance and the synchronicity of life. Xie exposes the natural world using light and shadows, creating evocative images that reveal the overlooked and forgotten, while exploring the connections between his external environment and his subconscious mind. Intentional Attention thus highlights the phenomena of bucolic life that surrounds us which we often take for granted.
Cameron Gainer is an American visual artist making work in a diverse range of media with an in-depth interest in fundamental concepts such as time and light. His practice is informed by the belief that the gesture of an idea can be manifested in many forms. His work has been exhibited at the Walker Art Center, Crystal Bridges Museum of Art, and at the 58th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia among others. Xie Hongdong is a self-taught photographer who lives and works in Beijing, China. He has maintained his honest approach to photography, without manipulation, since 2012. Xie has had recent exhibitions at Bridge Projects in Los Angeles, Artrue in Taipei, Taiwan, and Clerkenwell Space in Beijing, China.
