Bite
Raheleh Filsoofi
With roots in ceramics, a medium made of earthen materials, Raheleh Filsoofi plays with ideas of land, ownership, and borders in her piece BITE. An artifact of her performance done in 2021, Filsoofi filmed herself biting into but not breaking an unfired clay plate, creating a circular pattern reminiscent of the symmetrical markings on fine pottery. In doing so, Filsoofi explores a socio-political liminal space to comment on her experience as an Iranian woman and immigrant to the United States.
